Carolyn Dutton is a Certified Academic Language Therapist  (CALT) who provides

educational assessment for students struggling to maintain the same academic pace as

their peers.  She also provides remediation for children and adults with dyslexia as well as

presentations to adult groups including teacher in-service.

   

Carolyn began her journey in the field of education in 1990 when she graduated from

Southwest Texas State University to teach special education.  In '92 she was one of five teachers

accepted into the Dyslexia Therapist Training Program at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. 

During this two-year intensive training program she became passionate about literacy and helping all children achieve their highest potential as readers, students, and ultimately, thriving citizens.  In 1994, she became a Certified Academic Language Therapist and moved to Denver to be closer to her family in Highlands Ranch.   During the next 15 years, she obtained her Master's Degree in Education from Regis University and enjoyed a wide variety of challenges and experiences as a Learning Specialist at The Children's Hospital.  Carolyn holds a valid Colorado Teacher's License with a special education endorsement.  Currently, Carolyn is working toward her certification as a Qualified Instructor through the Colorado Literacy & Learning Center.  She enjoys the challenges and rewards of training teachers and other qualified adults who wish to become Certified Academic Language Therapists.

   

Carolyn has twenty-one years of experience using multi-sensory structured language techniques, most of which are considered to be an Orton-Gillingham based approach..  She is a proficient user of the Alphabetic Phonics, Multisensory Reading and Spelling and Take Flight curricula.  She has also taken courses in Scientific Spelling, Wilson Reading System, Fundations, Remedies for Reading, and Lindamood-Bell's Visualizing and Verbalizing. 

 

Carolyn is the past president of the local chapter of the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA) and past board member of the International Dyslexia Association, Learning Disabilities Association, and Learning Ally.
