5 Basic Components of Effective Reading Instruction

FLUENCY is generally considered to be a combination of the degree to which we are able to read both accurately and rapidly.  Fluency research is a realitively new addition to the field of reading research.  It gained considerable ground after it was identified as 1 of the 5 basic components of effective reading instruction by the National Reading Panel (2000).  As we learn more about the role of fluency and the basic skills needed to achieve fluency we are able to fine tune the definition of fluency as well as our approach to improving fluency in struggling students.
